Sunshine Island Inn Review

Our recent stay at the Sunshine Island Inn was a mixed bag, with some positives and negatives that are worth sharing.

Upon arrival, we were pleased to find that the office had taken steps to address some of the issues we'd read about online. For example, they provided a tub mat to cover the rust on the bath tub floor and white duct tape to cover the rusty edges. However, despite these efforts, the bathroom fixtures themselves remained terribly rusted - something that was not pictured or mentioned in the description.

Another issue we encountered was with the blinds in our room. While they were functional, they seemed designed for residential use rather than commercial, and their low setting meant they dragged on the floor door mat below. Adding to the frustration was a notice posted next to the patio door warning us that if the vertical blinds broke, we would be charged.

The bathroom itself was surprisingly small, with a narrow doorway (about 26 inches wide) that made it difficult to maneuver. And to make matters worse, the dishes we found in the kitchenette had dried-on residue and needed washing before use.

On a more positive note, the laundry facility was conveniently located on site, making it easy to do our dirty laundry. We also appreciated the outdoor shower and water hose for rinsing off sandy shoes.

The best part of our stay was undoubtedly the beach equipment provided by the inn - Tommy Bahama umbrellas, folding chairs, buckets, shelling nets, and a wagon to haul everything around were all top-notch.

Overall, while there are some areas where the Sunshine Island Inn falls short (the rusted bathroom fixtures and outdated kitchenette being two examples), the bedroom and dining area did match up with our expectations. As of April 2019, we'd rate this room as a solid 1.5 stars out of five.
